Leaving on a jet plane

So yesterday we went in to town to book our honeymoon yaay! This probably isn't something a bride-to-be should say but the honeymoon is the part I am by far the most excited about because I love travelling and I haven't been away in ages! (Well I got the bus to Galway a few months ago...does that count?)

Anyway we have provisionally booked our flights to Argentina and Patagonia!

Heading off in November this year so will have to start working on my bikini bod — am hoping to look like this:
Kim Kardashian
And Himself will no doubt be looking something along the lines of this:
Bradley Cooper

We have both travelled a good bit — we met in Sri Lanka — and Himself was leaning towards Borneo for the honeymoon. However, anyone who know me will know that my body is a place of worship for mosquitos, bugs, insects whatever — they love me and I have developed an unhealthy paranoia about them wherever I go so Borneo was a no-no. Apparently Argentina and Patagonia will be fine at the time of year when we go so that's a relief. I will be staying well away from any mozzie-infested jungle that's for sure!

Can't wait to tuck into a few nice steaks and glasses of red wine in Buenos Aires before heading off to the Igazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina.
Looks fab doesn't it?
Igazu Falls
We might take a boat trip to Montevideo and maybe even go up to Brazil if we've time. We're going to split the holiday between roughing it and luxury — it is our honeymoon after all so may as well milk the upgrades and champagne as much as possible!

Has anyone been to Argentina? I don't really know much about Patagonia but our travel agent said there are really cool glaciers there. Any recommendations or travel tips?!

Thanks for all your comments so far!

  1. Sounds lovely, I really think its up to the couple to decide on the honeymoon, you just can't tell anyone where to go because everyone's tastes are so different.

  6. Wow sounds amazing, definitely a dream honeymoon. How long would ye plan on going on this trip for? think you'd prob need a bit of time to get all the places in that you want to. The honeymoon would be my fave bit of a wedding too I reckon.

  7. This sounds like a great trip, its a great idea to do a bit of travelling for your honeymoon if thats what floats your boat. My hubby and I went to thailand for our honeymoon and we had a great time, we roughed it a bit but also took a week in a very luxorious hotel to just relax and chill out after the wedding stresses. Wish I was able to do it all over again.Enjoy.

  9. James is just making his way around that part of the world at the moment. Mind you it's far from honeymoon style he has become accustomed. The Gilette has taken a well earner rest. He looks a cast member from Lost. You'll have the most amazing time!

  12. Wow..Jealous.. Argentina is amazing. Such a beautiful country. iguazu falls are unreal and you have a way nicer view on the Argentian side than on the brazillian side. The Devils Throat is wow and you'll get amazing pics.
The steak is actually better than you could every imagine. And you wont get it well done so be prepared for it to be nice and juicy!! And it usually comes with a fried egg on top which at first i thought was just weird but its actually quite nice.
Patagonia is fab too. So scenic. There is the Moreno glacier down real south. Meant to be so cool but unfortunately we didnt have enough time to see it.
All in all argentina is once of the nices countries I've been too. Ye'll have a ball....

  13. Thanks for all that Sarah, you're not a travel agent by any chance?! What's the Devils Throat? Ya we had thought about going up into Brazil but it might be trying to do too much — would rather really get to see two countries instead of trying to cram in too much.
What time of the year were you there? We'll be there in November so am wondering what kind of clothes to bring....?
Egg on steak sounds good! yum yum!

  21. I was there in July/Aug. Top of argentina was lovely. Not awfully warm but none the less a blue sky. As we went further south it was very cold. We were actually skiing in one part of argentina. Bariloche.. Great spot. But id say it'll prob be more springish time/weather when ye're there but not positive. But id defo pack a few warm jumpers! And gloves!
The devils throat is a one of the many waterfalls you'll see in Iguazu and probably the most spectacular.
    Oh to go back there.......

  28. My other half and I are hanging out for the honeymoon (Brazil) too, nothing wrong with that! We won't get to Igazu Falls this time round but I'm looking forward to going in the future, my other half is Brazilian so he's got big plans!

I was in Chilean Patagonia back in December 1999. I, too, am a magnet for bugs of all shapes and sizes and I did fine, I don't remember having problems. It's a beautiful part of the world. If you're worried get yourself some Deet spray which is fantastic, and don't wear dark clothes as the enormous flying bugs are attracted to them!

  31. Argentina is the business Brenda, was there a couple of years ago. Flew from BA to Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego and then went north by bus through Argentina and Chile. Perito Moreno glacier is amazing. I didn't go to Torres del Paine park in Chile but heard it's beautiful. I hope you like steak - it's amazing over there, mmmmmmmmmm. Gary
