This is a blog about our wedding that's planned for October 2011. I'm hoping it will be a great way to organise everything in the run up to it, any feedback or suggestions will be taken on board!
We decided to have the wedding in Galway and after we booked the venue — the Meyrick Hotel in Eyre Square — we found out it's where my 87-year-old granny had her reception many years ago! The four-star hotel has a piano player in the lobby and Mr Pianoman said he will play anything we like during the champagne reception. Anyone have any suggestions or requests?!
The hotel also has a really cool roof-top jacuzzi and a spa so no doubt they will be put to good use over the weekend!
Weddings are all about the dress really. I got mine in January so can't wait to try it on again. It's being made in Holland and sent over in July! The best thing about it is it's not clingy so I will be able to have a fine big feed on the day and not be worrying about a big fat belly! I'd love to put up some pictures of it but it's probably better to keep it as a surprise! I'm totally loving this Vera Wang one though!
The room is fab — The Corkman loved the fact that it has dimmer lights — he's all about creating an atmosphere and knows way too much about candelabras and candle sconces for my liking! We thought loads of candles around the room would be lovely, might be a bit of a fire hazard though?! Being the cold creature that I am as long as the room is warm I'll be happy!
You can see the room, and some gorgeous dresses here.
Tomorrow — Four bridesmaids, four locations (London, Bristol, Dublin and Castlebar).
Hi Brenda, brilliant blog. Its so interesting that your grandmother had her reception there too, I bet it will bring back lots of lovely memorys for her on the day. That will be lovely too with the piano man for the champagne reception...maybe you should get him to sing..."sing me a song i'm the piano man"!! Candles sound lovely, great idea once the hotel allow it, as you said might be against there health and safety policy! Looking forward to tomorrow's blog already.
ReplyDeleteI was at a wedding where there was a guy playing piano before the meal and it made for a lovely atmosphere. He also stayed on after the DJ finished so there was a rousing singsong! Hotel looks beautiful. Best of Luck
ReplyDeleteHey Bren, great hotel location right in the heart of Galway, one of my friends from collage stayed there recently and thought it was a fantastic hotel and that staff were so friendly and helpful!!!
ReplyDeleteDo they still have the hot-tub on the roof?
ReplyDeleteYes they do still have the hot-tub, it looks lovely - it would be nice to hop in with a glass of champagne overlooking the city! Will have to put on the invitation to bring swimming togs or bikini!
ReplyDeleteHey B,
ReplyDeleteCant wait for the Big Day.
The hotel is really nice and what a great location in Galway.
The candles would be a lovely idea and add a nice touch, i know my Sister had tea lights all over the church and it was lovely.
I'l have a think about music for Mr.PianoMan :) One lovely tune is Glasgow love theme, its in Love Actaully :)
Look forward to all your other blogs

Well my memories of the the Meyrick Hotel in Eyre Square go back to my college days in GMIT. Seeing all of those well dressed individuals coming and going with big smiles as of a really satisfied customer.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to the “Piano Man” I think it’s a little premature to believe that it will be a man. My belief is that it could as easily be a “Piano Lady”
Coincidentally, I know a ‘fine young lady’ very well who is an exceptional pianist and I see no better place to expose her true talent.
It is also my single birthday wish in July that this ‘fine young lady’ performs a three pieces of my choosing. This opens great food for thought!!!
On the whole candle rose mantic thingy that you’re corky has going on, I feel it may be wise to abide by the health and safety issues of this prestigious establishment. Furthermore, it is my reckoning that you purchase some battery operated flickering candle as these fulfil those corky rose mantic wishes and they can be set to come on as you please

Gerard

Well thats great the hot-tub is still in use, such a unique feature in the hotel. Look forward to using it.
ReplyDeleteGreat venue! They also have a private bar (cocktail bar!)/area downstairs that you could slip down to at some stage over the weekend. Between the hot-tub upstairs and the bar in the basement, not mentioning everything in between, you will both be very busy! Looking forward to tomorrow's update on the bridesmaids!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog and great venue! Have been at loads of formal balls and weddings here! Loads of bars and very attentive staff!!
ReplyDeleteNice central spot! Was in the Meyrick a few weeks back for a meal, savage food and there was an old fella playing the piano in the lobby so I'd say that could be your man!
ReplyDeleteVery old fashioned set-up, kinda classy, Scorsese could have shot The Godfather here!
What are the rooms like and more importantly the main room?
hey bren, great blog. thats so lovely that ur gran had her reception there too, nothing like traditions. its all sounds so lovely, it'll be a brilliant day xxx
ReplyDeleteWell I believe the band will be brilliant.
ReplyDeleteNo doubts but it will be a wonderful celebration.

Hi Brenda, I finally got around to checking it out. Excellent stuff. I do agree that after the church of course that the honeymoon is the most important part. “When a man is newly wed, he need not go out on a military expedition, nor shall any public duty be imposed on him. He shall be exempt for one year for the sake of her family, to bring joy to the wife he has married.”Deuteronomy 24:5 Definition of honeymoon..interesting! Well, good luck and I look forward to reading your post-honeymoon blog. South America great choice.
